Granite City Pet Hospital is a full-service animal hospital and  wellness center.  We provide in-house surgeries, a full range of diagnostic laboratory services, and a complete pet pharmacy.

At Granite City Pet Hospital, we pledge to make your pet care as affordable as we have made it convenient. 

Granite City Pet Hospital is comprised of a modern hospital, surgical unit, radiology department and on-site laboratory.  We emphasize preventive care whenever possible to ensure a happy, healthy and long life for your pet. 

We offer physical examination, vaccinations, heartworm and parasite prevention, geriatric health care programs for older pets, veterinary dentistry, and nutritional counseling services.

We recommend a complete physical exam for your pet on a yearly  basis.  Lots of changes can occur from year to year, especially as your pet gets older. 

Preventative health care recommendations are made based on examination findings and your pet’s individual needs and situation, which you help us to determine.  This may include blood, urine, or fecal tests, vaccinations, dietary or exercise advice, and life-style changes.

Our Veterinarians are trained in state-of-the-art surgical techniques should your pet require a surgical procedure.  We offer a full range of soft tissue surgeries from routine spays and neuters to more advanced procedures.  We perform surgeries using a laser to increase comfort for your pet's post operative recuperation.

We also maintain an extensive referral service for those procedures requiring specialized training and equipment.

We offer specialized orthopedic procedures such as Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomies (TPLO) to correct ruptured ligaments in the knee.  TPLO surgery has been shown to be very successful in restoring full function and preventing further joint degeneration and can be performed on any size dog.

The tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), involves making a curved cut in the top of the tibia bone (osteotomy) to include the tibial plateau.  The tibial plateau (the dashed line denotes the top of the tibial plateau) is then rotated along the curved osteotomy in order to level the slope.

A plate and screws are used to hold the tibial plateau in place so that the bone can heal well.

Our on-site laboratory allows us to perform diagnostic lab testing to help us determine the best treatment plan for your pet's medical condition. 

Our modern X-Ray equipment ensures your pet has minimal exposure to radiation, while our automatic processor produces clear, quality films.  Within minutes, we can have your pet's X-rays taken, processed and ready for interpretation by our doctors.

We also offer advanced Ultrasound technology to help us diagnose your pet's medical condition without the trauma of invasive exploratory surgery. Ultrasound imaging can give us a clear and precise format from which to determine the most effective treatment options for your pet.

Endoscopy is a medical procedure that enables us to look at the gastrointestinal tract using a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera at the tip.   Within the tube is a channel that allows the passage of a variety of diagnostic instruments for examination and biopsy. 

Veterinary Endoscopy allows definitive evaluation of the lining of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and colon.  Small samples of these areas can be taken and then analyzed in order to determine the exact nature of your pet's problem.

Granite City Pet Hospital is now offering laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.  Minimally invasive surgeries reduce the surgical insult and would seem to be preferred over traditional open approaches for any operation that can be performed by laparoscopy.  Research studies have documented decrease stress ourselves as we believe it to be less invasive.  The surgeon can also see the tissue field better and can easily record these images.  Minimally invasive surgical treatments have dramatically advanced patient care for people, and companion animals practice is following this trend.

Our EKG and Pulse Oximetry equipment can monitor your Pet's heart rate and vital signs to better determine how well your Pet is responding to treatment and during surgical procedures.

We provide special attention to aging pets focusing on preventative measures and  the early detection and treatment of problems.  Older patients commonly experience the same problems that older humans do – heart problems, diabetes, arthritis, chronic renal insufficiency, dental problems, hearing and vision loss, etc. 

Many of these conditions we can treat to extend and improve your older pet’s quality of life.

At Granite City Pet Hospital, we offer veterinary dental services such as prophylaxis, extractions, and teeth cleaning & polishing to put that healthy smile back on your pet's face.

Granite City Pet Hospital is now offering veterinary acupuncture therapy as comprehensive treatment for pain and other chronic conditions such as arthritis, seizures, back disease, urinary incontinence, GI disease and certain respiratory issues.

This Eastern Medicine treatment is used as an alternative to or

an adjunct to Western Medicine.  It can be highly effective in

pain management and other medical conditions.

Often times, behavior modification techniques can help your pet to live a happier and healthier life.

We offer behavioral counseling for dogs and cats concerning such issues as separation anxiety, aggression, inappropriate urination, and many other problems that your pets may be experiencing.
