MEET OUR VETERINARY STAFF

LUCAS THOMI, DVM

Owner of Companion Animal Hospital

Dr. Thomi is the owner of Companion Animal Hospital, bring with him over 9 years experience in many aspects of veterinary medicine. He graduated from Colorado State University and specializes in exotics, small animals, wild life, and also practices large animal medicine. He is certified in veterinary acupunture and alternative therapies. He has much experience in advanced orthopedic and soft tissue surgery including spine and thoracic surgery, total hip replacements, Tibial Tuberosity Advancement, and is certified in Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy.

Dr. Thomi volunteers many hours in our Helena community, speaking to local schools and 4-H groups, donating surgery and medical care to our local shelter and rescue groups, and his hospital has become a refuge for difficult to place animals with very serious injuries.

Dr. Thomi lives with his son, Oliver, his daughter, Sophia, and his significant other, Jennifer. Their family also include 2 dogs, 1 cat, a lizard, rabbits, and various rescued animals from the Fish, Wildlife and Parks work for which he donates his time and expertise.

DAVE TRAYNOR, DVM (Photo Coming Soon!)

Dr. Traynor is Cum Laude honors graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. He brings with him 25 years of clinical practice specializing in canine and feline medicine. His special areas of interest include allergies, dermatology and internal medicine. In addition to his clinical work Dr. Traynor was an adjunct professor of Biology at Carroll College for the past 6 years. He primarily taught anatomy and physiology and served as the pre-veterinary advisor.

On a personal level Dr. Traynor just celebrated his 25^th wedding anniversary and has a wonderful teenage son. In his spare time he is an avid outdoorsman spending time fishing, river running, gardening and hiking. He shared his home with 3 canine pals (2 black labs and an Anatolian shepherd) and one feline buddy. His dogs often come to work with “Dad” too. Dr. Traynor is also a member of the Helena Karate and Judo club where he practices martial arts.

MATT BLANDFORD, DVM (Photo Coming Soon!)

Dr. Blandford graduated form Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and joined the Companion Animal Hospital in 2009. He acquired significant experience treating exotic pets and wildlife during vet school including externships at The International Crane Foundation in Wisconsin, the Raptor Center in Minnesota, and the Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed the mixed animal track at Purdue which provided significant experience in diagnosing and treating large and small animals including small ruminants and llamas. Dr. Blandford enjoys the challenges of providing medical care to a wide range of species.

He volunteered much of his spare time caring for orphaned and injured wildlife in Indiana and continues this work in Montana. He also provided surgical and medical expertise for local canine and feline rescue groups.

Dr. Blandford grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho and now lives in Helena with his cat, Moki and two turtles. He spends his spare time in the outdoors photographing wildlife, camping, backpacking and fly fishing.
